Robert Stevenson’s Thoughts on the Pursuit of Excellence

Fear of Failure

February 6, 2022

by Robert Stevenson

I have heard it said over and over again that what holds people back from succeeding is the FEAR OF FAILURE. I think there is more to it than that. I think the phrase “FEAR OF FAILURE” is directly connected to FEAR of shame, FEAR of ridicule, FEAR of embarrassment, or the FEAR of humiliation. The sad thing about those fears is they are all shelf-imposed. We are the ones who give those fears value. Eleanor Roosevelt said, “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” The way to stop that concern is … Don’t Give Your Consent.

YOU Control Your Destiny

February 28, 2021

by Robert Stevenson

The day you “REALIZE” the fact that YOU control your destiny by the choices YOU make, is the day you start taking control your life. I am going to throw a list of questions at you and let you reflect on your answers. Now, some of these questions might not be applicable to you at all, which is good. BUT, if one or more of these questions strikes a nerve when you read them, then you may have some work to do.

Why, Why Not, Why Don’t We Try

February 14, 2021

by Robert Stevenson

Nobel Laureate and physicist Richard Feynman said that it was no coincidence that virtually all major discoveries in physics were made by those under the age of 25. When he was asked why he concluded, … “you don’t know what you don’t know.” I guess another way you could put it is, when you are unaware of something that supposedly can’t be done … you go at it with a blind determination to see if it CAN be done.

Success Is Rented

The largest retailer in the United States in the 1950’s was Sears. In May of 1950 Sam Walton founded Walmart and Sears was not concerned. Today Walmart is ranked #29 on the Forbes Global 2000 (Companies) List based on revenues, profits, assets and market value … and Sears declared bankruptcy, October of 2018.

Quiet Abandonment

February 9, 2020

by Robert Stevenson

91% of customers who are unhappy with a brand will leave without complaining. This process of ‘QUIET ABANDONMENT’ can adversely affect a company’s image, sales and certainly their profits. Customers today, don’t even give you a chance to fix the problem. WHY? Here is one reason why. 79% of consumers who complain about a poor customer experience, are ignored. Customers are getting so conditioned to “nothing being done” when they complain … that they have quit complaining; they just leave. They quietly abandon doing business with you.

Two Words You Should Never Forget

February 24, 2019

by Robert Stevenson

I heard it once said that, “Anyone too busy to say, ‘Thank You,’ will soon have fewer chances to say it.” Remembering to say “THANK YOU” can make you money and friends. Forgetting those 2 simple words can disappoint anyone. DISAPPOINT is a very powerful and scary word. You see, disappoint can turn into other “Dis” words, such as...disgruntled, discouraged, disenthralled, disillusioned, disheartened, and dissatisfied.
