The Same Thing

Robert Stevenson Blog - Why fit in, when you were born to stand out?

Experience has taught me that we should always be striving to improve, move forward, stretch our limitations, try something new or different and doing the “SAME” thing is a deterrent to all of those. As Dr. Seuss said, “Why fit in, when you were born to stand out?”

Experience has also taught me…

The SAME thinking that got me into a problem will not get me out of it. Doing the SAME thing the SAME way and expecting a different outcome is just plain stupid. In both sentences the word SAME is the problem. The next time you have a situation that needs fixing, changing, or adjusting, remember doing the SAME thing will be of NO help. Here is how I suggest you approach SAME:

S - Stop what you are doingA - Abandon current methodsM - Move on to something differentE - End the pain, suffering, losses

So, instead of doing the SAME old thing, try something new, different, novel, or innovative.

A couple of my favorite quotes about doing something different are:

  • “Nothing changes if nothing changes.”

  • “When your past calls, don’t answer. It has nothing new to say.”

But my favorite of all is: “If you want something you have never had, you will have to do something you’ve never done.” This is where the rubber meets the road, when you get serious enough and have the courage to go for it. All progress comes because someone had the resolution to be different, do different, see different and try different. People who want to make a difference in their own life and career, start by doing something different. I’ll leave you with this final thought:

If you are in a Comfort Zone, afraid to venture out,

remember that all winners were at one time filled with doubt.

Don’t be the same – BE BETTER!

“You hit home on all fronts - service, stress, team building, dealing with change, communication and leadership. You truly got us pumped up. I thank you for a truly inspiring and rewarding experience. The best part of all, you made me a hero.”
